Philanthropy Northwest. A 30-year anniversary is a time for celebration as well as reflection. That's what staff at Philanthropy Northwest, a membership organization that represents foundations in five western states and Canada, discovered. To stay vibrant, PNW had to attract new members from a wider geographic region and to offer — and effectively communicate — an expanded range of programs and services.

We began with a communication audit to understand how PNW was currently communicating with its membership, and we met with staff and board members. From these insights, we developed a communication plan — in effect, a road map — that helped PNW communicate with its key audiences in ways that would resonate with them. A redesigned Web site, more consistent branding, and new member welcome kit are several of our recommendations that were recently implemented.
